Continuing the yoga theme, I'd like to highlight other biodegradable and non-toxic yoga products to give you the best-aligned pose while avoiding contact with the harmful industrial by-products used in so many exercise items today.
To get the benefit of a correct asana while avoiding too much strain, a yoga block is great to have around. The ones at my local studio are made from PVC foam, so I bring my own all-natural cork yoga block. Since the straps at most studios are likely to have been used by many yogis since their last cycle through the laundry machines, I prefer to bring my own. I recommend using a strap made from organic cotton to avoid skin contact with the many pesticides and herbicides used in the conventional cotton industry. You'll also have the benefit of knowing that you're part of the environmental solution rather than contributing to the problem!
Please comment below and let me know about some of the great natural and eco-conscious props you use in your yoga practice.

Make your yoga mat natural
Yoga is a great way to exercise, relax, and breathe deeply -- but have you thought about what you're breathing in so deeply? Most commercially available yoga mats are made with polyvinyl chloride, a material which off-gases its potentially hazardous chemicals throughout the product's lifespan. Remember that "new car smell"?
Luckily, there are a several healthier alternatives. Natural rubber yoga mats provide all the support you'll need for a strong downward-facing dog. The Sattva Jute mat is another great option if you'd prefer a plant fiber material -- it comes with an eco-friendly non-slip backing to help you maintain your pose.
